| DEBRA LYNN - you asked about sociopathic personalities....I work for a woman that has 3 children. Her first is an adopted child from someone else in the family. He was a 2 year old in diapers - in a crack house - when she swooped in a saved him. He looked darling, just like the kid on 'Jerry McGuire' with spikey blonde hair and glasses. He was loved and doted on. He couldn't bond and started abusing the family dog. At 9 years old he was injured in sports and told his school his parents did it. The household was turned on the side and the other children were in peril. After being cleared of charges, the woman I work for asked the boy why he said what he did. His response? "You shouldn't of made me mad". He is now in a boarding school and has a college fund, but is basically cut loose from the family. I am sad because it wasn't the kids fault, but I am not special enough to deal with someone without a conscience. When some one doesn't have any trace of a heart, I don't think you can grow one.

| Rae: Loved what you said about getting the munchies. No, not humid here, just pilot (cook) error. Arletta: Re the “cake-ish” cookies, I think you’ve been speaking with our mutual friend. As far as adjusting for high altitude, the directions were for anything over 5,200 feet, and I’m at 5,700. I just might try what you say, though -- I mean anything should be an improvement. We’ve got to stop this back and forth. I don’t want to be accused of being a Guestbook hog today. Too late, I know.

Pammer, your choice. I think you didn't have to alter the recipe. If you did then they were probably cake-ish right?

Actually, it's better to be high when baking, because then, when you get the munchies, you won't have to drive to the store. Pam, was it humid where you are today? Sometimes humidity can have a bad effect on high altitude recipes.

| Dear Ann & Guestbook Buddies: I made some Toll House cookies today for the first time, and they turned out really ...... strange. It’s sorta amazing that I could screw up a tried-and-true recipe, although I did have to alter it for “high altitude,” and I’m using having to do that as my excuse. I thought of our Carolyn/E.Tenn, as in “Where’s Carolyn to help me out, tell me what I’m doing wrong?” When she finally decides to move out here to become my private chef, it will be only for my dinners, and the rest of the time it will be on a 24-hr “on call” basis for emergencies, like cookie emergencies. Actually, these cookies are so bad, they might end up in the coyote-food bag, so that’s pretty bad.

Fiz, I do remember some of the issues you have shared during the years. We were fortunate w/my step son. We had a great pediatrician who worked closely w/us and his teachers. His meds were closely monitored and adjusted. Despite that, as well as great support for us, there were still med issues as well as social ones. It's such a blasphemy that the UK doesn't have better care for these kids...and help for the parents. My step son is now doing well. At 21 he is in school, working and in a positive relationship, and no meds. Thinking of you.
